Frank Evans

FRANK EVANS is a theater lyricist and producer. His "Abie's Island Rose" (Co-written with Richard Engquist, Ron Sproat and Doug Katsaros) played off-Broadway at Playhouse 91 and moved to the Hollywood (FL) Playhouse, where it was named one of the ten best shows of the year 2000 by the Palm Beach Post.

He is winner of the 2002 Jerry Bock Award for his work on the musical version of the Kaufman- Ferber classic "Dinner at Eight," which workshopped at The Century Center in New York, was part of the New Musicals Festival in Chicago and was staged in the Grand Salon at London's Drury Lane Theatre in 2003.

He was awarded the 2002 Spirit Award (Best New Work) for "War Brides," which played the Spirit of Broadway Theater in Norwich, CT. "War Brides" was named "Best of the Year" by the Norwich Bulletin.

Other musicals include: "Ravenswood" (Greenwich House Theatre, NYC), "Nobody's Perfect" (ELT at Lincoln Center) "No Speed Limit" (Edward Albee Theatre Festival, Valdez, Alaska; Pittsburgh's Acting Company) and a contributed to a host of revues including TheatreWorks/USA's "When The Cookie Crumbles..." about the impact of divorce on young adults (Published by Music Theatre International) and The Women's Project's "Skirting the Issues."

His work has also been seen on the stages of Paper Mill Playhouse, the New Hope (PA) Performing Arts Festival and The American Theatre Showcase in Denver and Aspen. He has written three plays, "Poolside," "Puma" and "George and Edna Go To Omaha" with his "Dinner at Eight" writing partner, Julie Gilbert which are being performed as part of the 40th anniversary of Florida State University this winter. He is completing, "Ripe, The Not Ready for Middle Age Musical" with composer Richard Evans and comedienne Jane Stroll, slated for a Fall 05 NYC premiere.

Frank serves on the steering committee of The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop where he was fortunate enough to study with Engel during the last two years of his life. On occasion, he serves as pinch hitter for Maury Yeston, moderating the Advanced BMI Workshop and has co-produced any number of events for BMI including The BMI Showcase at Manhattan Threatre Club and "From The BMI Workshop," a television pilot which features Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez, winners of the 2004 TonyŽ Award for "Avenue Q."

Frank is Producing Director of Musical Mondays Theatre Lab, which has developed new works for the Musical Theatre for the last six years.

Frank is a graduate of Antioch College, where he majored in theatre and did post-graduate work at NYU before joining the BMI Workshop. He also has served as adjunct professor at NYU, teaching musical theatre history. He writes about the theatre for BMI MusicWorld ( cover story profiling Mel Brooks) and AisleSay, the Internet magazine of stage reviews and opinion.
